Happy 2014!!!!!!!!!!!

Does that look odd or what? I know I say this every January, but darned if I know where the time goes! The truth is, I wasn’t ready to wave bye-bye to 2013, which had its highs and its lows, but with one exception, it was a very good year. We lost my father-in-law in October, and that was a sad time — he was the last of the four parents/grandparents, so it was also the end of an era for the family. It’s always hard to say goodbye.

But — we welcomed someone new when our oldest daughter added to her family with another baby boy in July. We now have two grandboys who bring non-stop delight and joy into our lives.

And — our youngest daughter graduated from law school, passed the bar and was hired as an assistant district attorney. We couldn’t be more proud (and I guess you know I’m thinking about writing those thrillers again!).

Later this month — on the 28th, to be exact — AT THE RIVER’S EDGE, the seventh book in the Chesapeake Diaries series, hits the shelves. Sophie Enright wants to change her life — she’s ready to leave behind her law career (and her cheating ex) and follow her dream of opening her own restaurant. The boarded up stone building in St. Dennis is the perfect spot, and the timing is just right. With Dallas MacGregor’s new film studio opening right down the road and no other dining establishment between the river and the center of town, Sophie’s pretty much guaranteed a customer base. When she hits St. Dennis and meets Jason Bowers, the landscaper hired by her grandfather to recreate a historic garden, sparks definitely fly. But unbeknownst to Sophie, the property she’s set her heart on is the same one Jason’s been trying to buy for months. Sparks of another kind fly when Jason discovers it’s been sold, and it looks like it’s the end of a beautiful friendship for sure.

But hey, this is St. Dennis, right? As Publishers Weekly put it, it’s “a magical place where anything can happen.” And if you’ve been reading the series, you know that the magic isn’t all accidental.

So mark your calendars for January 28, 2014 — you don’t want to miss this trip back to the Eastern Shore!

Oh, and do stay tuned, folks: ON SUNSET BEACH, book number 8 in the series, is scheduled for release on July 1, 2014 — just in time for that long holiday weekend! This is Ford Sinclair’s homecoming book — time to find out where he’s really been and what he’s really been doing for the past several years. Hint: He wasn’t on a peacekeeping mission for the U.N. as his mother’s been led to believe!

Here’s hoping that 2014 brings you much luck, happiness, love, good health and good times — and of course, many many good books!

Love ~
